Dear Skålleagues,

As members of a networking organisation, we often talk about the importance of building professional connections.  But today, I want to highlight an equally powerful aspect of networking: friendship.

At first glance, the goal of networking might seem to focus solely on professional relationships and career growth.  While those are key benefits, the friendships that evolve within Skål International can be just as transformative.  True friendships are built on trust, shared experiences, and mutual support — elements that are foundational to any successful network.

Friendship in a networking context isn’t just about exchanging business cards or attending events together; it’s about deepening connections with people who share your values, interests, and passions.  These friendships provide a safe space for collaboration, problem-solving, and personal growth.  They can offer encouragement during difficult times and help open doors to opportunities that go beyond the professional realm.

When you take the time to truly get to know someone, to understand their goals and challenges, the relationship evolves from transactional to meaningful.  This kind of connection can be especially powerful in a networking organisation, where the value of genuine relationships often far outweighs the number of “connections” you make.
